My name is Ashlyn Brownlee! I'm 19 years old and currently living in St. Louis, MO. I am currently not studying but rather have centered my life around service. I went on my first build with Casas in 2014, and I was hooked! Leadership from this build recommended that I look into the internship, but at the time I was not eligible. Fast forward 2 years, I have built with Casas two more times and I'm thrilled to have been accepted as an intern! This is my dream opportunity, and I look forward to everything God has for me this summer!
Hi! My name is Alissa Dutcher. I'm 18 years old, and I'm from Jefferson City, Missouri. I am a sophomore at Ozark Christian College in Joplin, Missouri, where I am studying Intercultural Studies. My plan is to eventually do missions work with this degree. The first time I ever went on a mission trip with Casas por Cristo was in 2013 in the Acuña, México location. During that trip, I fell in love with this ministry and the Mexican culture. Since then, I have become very connected with some great people in Acuña and have visited them multiple times. This past winter I felt as though God was calling me to serve with Casas as an intern. After a lot of prayer, I decided to jump in and apply! Now I am an intern and am so excited to serve with this ministry! I am blessed to have this opportunity to serve others, and I can't wait to see how God will work this summer.
Hello! My name is Adam Steinhauer, and I am graduating from Northern Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology in May 2016. I grew up in northern Wisconsin on my family’s dairy farm where I began helping with chores at a young age. I’ve always enjoyed building things and working outside and have continued to help on the farm among many other things while attending school. During college, I became a part of a campus ministry group and went to Juárez, México for my first build with Casas. It was an amazing experience and gave me a new desire to serve others. The following summer I worked at a Christian summer camp where I learned a lot about leading and working with others. This summer it is a privilege to be a part of the Casas team and see the way God has been at work to bring me to this ministry opportunity.
My name is Bryor Grotts. I am 20 years old, and I live in Joplin, Missouri. I finished up my first year at Ozark Christian College. I am currently going for a Bachelor’s in Intercultural Studies. I went on my first mission trip ever with Casas por Cristo in 2014. Since then I have always had it in the back of my mind. For the last two years I have mainly had two goals. One was to come to Ozark and the other was to do the internship with Casas. After many prayers asking God if this is where I’m supposed to be, I knew that God wanted me to be in this position. This ministry has had such a big impact on so many people’s lives in all four of their locations. I know that God is going to continue doing His work, and I’m excited to see what that looks like for me this summer!
Bethany Van Alstine
My name is Bethany Van Alstine. I am 21 years old and currently live in Marquette, Michigan. I am a junior at Northern Michigan University, earning a double major in International Studies and Anthropology. My dream is to work with community development and sustainability in areas lacking basic resources. I am very involved with His House Christian Fellowship on campus and enjoy singing in the worship team both there and at my home church, Lake Superior Christian Church. I first heard about Casas por Cristo in 2015 when our His House group went to Juárez to build a house over spring break. I have been on many mission trips, but I really liked the way Casas went about their process and the fact that they meet people's’ physical needs. I feel called to be the hands and feet of Jesus. I strongly believe that is how we are to spread the Gospel, and I feel that Casas does that. I heard about the internship, and it stuck in my head as something I would love doing, so I pursued it the first summer I had free. I’m incredibly excited to be able to spread the love of God and build his Kingdom this summer!
Hello! My name is Chris Rymer. I’m from Akron, Ohio. I am a junior at the University of Akron studying Strategic and Organizational Communication. I went on my first Casas Por Cristo trip on my spring break in 2014 when I was 17 years old, and it was life changing. I had never been out of the country before, and when I first got to the build site my heart broke for the people of Juárez. After that trip I knew that I wanted to come back to do a summer internship. Since that trip I have gone on two more trips. After the last trip, I felt God calling me to apply for the internship, and I was accepted. I love the city of Juárez, and I am super excited to have the incredible opportunity to bless families all summer long!
My name is Ezequiel Madrigal, and I am originally from California, but I've lived in Oklahoma City since 2008. This next year will be my senior year at Oklahoma State University where I am studying Secondary Education with a minor in Spanish. I've been going on house builds with organizations like Casas since my freshman year of high school and I have loved it since the very first time. On my trip in 2015 I felt strongly led to the internship program and decided I would intern for the summer of 2016! I am thrilled for this opportunity, and I can't wait to get started!
Hi, I’m Howie Ritter. I am 19 years old, and I’m a student at the University of Colorado-Boulder. I am studying Mechanical Engineering with a vision to work in the fields of aerospace engineering, nanotechnology, or some type of renewable energy. I have gone on numerous Casas trips over the past six years. I find the work spiritually and physically engaging and gratifying. So naturally, it was a clear decision for me to spend a summer this way when I was presented the chance. I am looking forward to a great summer of spiritual enrichment through service and the opportunity to share fellowship with all who I meet.
Hello, my name is Hayden VanDorien, and I am going into my junior year at Ozark Christian College in Joplin, Missouri, where I am getting a degree in Intercultural Studies. I went on my first Casas trip in the spring of 2015, and immediately loved it. Growing up in a Latino household with a Guatemalan mother, I learned spanish from an early age. I greatly appreciate my Latino culture and heritage, and so the trip was right in my area. I felt the need to serve in some capacity last summer, and was very grateful for the opportunity to be an intern last year. So this summer, I am looking forward to doing it all over again. I want to serve God's people in the best way I can and help those in material poverty both with physical help and the Gospel. To Him be the glory!
My name is John W. Golden. I am 21 years old, born and raised in Longview, Texas. I moved to Atlanta, Georgia to study at Georgia Institute of Technology, where I am a 4th year student studying Materials Sciences and Engineering. I’ve served on mission trips with Casas por Cristo the spring break of my 2nd and 4th year of college. Both trips were amazing and life changing, and when I heard of the opportunity to serve with Casas for an entire summer, I immediately applied. I am hopeful that my time with Casas this summer will result in further maturation of my faith and that I may bring hope and change to the people in Juárez. I cannot wait to see what God has in store for me.
Hello! I'm John Karolus, and Northern Wisconsin is where I call home. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Concordia University Wisconsin in May and will be going to Concordia Seminary, St. Louis in the Fall. In March of 2015, I had my first experience with Casas por Cristo, and in 2016 I was able to return again to San Raymundo, Guatemala! When we landed in Chicago on our way back this year, I felt the need to apply for the internship this summer. After talking with the missionaries we worked with, being able to serve in the same way is something I am called to do. I am beyond excited to serve with Casas again, and can't wait to get started! Thanks!
¡Hola! I'm Mary. I am currently studying Spanish Secondary Education at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan. A few things that I love include: people, breakfast food, coffee, mountains, campfires, and Jesus. I went on my first mission trip with Casas por Cristo in 2015. I absolutely loved getting to know the family we built a house for and being able to share the love of Christ with them by meeting their needs. I am so blessed to be interning with Casas por Cristo. What a wonderful opportunity to serve the Lord. I can't think of a better way to spend this summer!
I am Matthew Fahrenkrug. I am 22 years old and entering my fifth year at the University of Virginia. I am completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering. I went on my first mission trip with Casas por Cristo in 2004 at the age of eleven and have returned for several trips since. Serving with Casas por Cristo shaped much of my life, reordering it into a life committed to serving others. When presented the opportunity to serve as an intern with Casas, I was eager to take it. I am looking forward to serving this summer and sharing God’s love with the people of Juárez!
I am Michael Vo. I am a 19 year old from West Point, GA. I am a sophomore at Southern Union Community College. I have built with Casas three times in the past. I enjoy building a lot, and it is definitely my favorite way to serve. I decided to intern with Casas because I know God is working through this organization, and I want to be part of it. I am eager to see what God has to offer through this internship!
Nathan & Cassie Cummings
Hi, this is Nathan and Cassie Cummings. We are 22 years old and currently live in Big Rapids, MI. This May we both graduate from Ferris State University (Nathan majoring in Automotive Engineering and Cassie in Nursing). Nathan and I met while on our first mission trip with Casas por Cristo in 2012 while on spring break. Since then, we have gotten married and have been on two more weeklong trips with Casas to their Juárez location. This past March, after our third trip, we started considering the internship program. After a lot of prayer, we really felt God calling us to spend a summer serving with this ministry that we have fallen in love with. We are blessed to have the opportunity to serve with this ministry, and we are looking forward to the things God will do in us and through us this summer!
Hey, I’m Seth Wilson. I’m 20 years old and grew up in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. I just finished my sophomore year as a nuclear engineering student at Georgia Tech. For my spring break this year, I took a trip to Juárez with Casas por Cristo and absolutely loved it! The trip opened my eyes to just how lucky I am to live in the U.S. and filled me with compassion for those who haven’t really been given a chance in life. Less than two weeks after my trip, I had already committed to interning with Casas for the summer so that I could do my part to give these people a chance in the form of a house while sharing God’s love with them!
I am Zeke Miller. I am from Fowlerville, Michigan and am 21 years old. I attend school at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan. I am studying to become a welding engineer. My first experience with Casas came this past spring. I had the opportunity during my spring break from college to go down to Juárez and build a house with Casas. It was a great experience! I told myself that I will plan on going down to México every year for my spring break (so three more years at least). Then the opportunity came to intern with Casas over the summer, which means I get to return to México sooner and really be involved with the ministry. I am excited to see how God uses me during this summer with Casas!
